In this talk, I will present some background information about cultural heritage in NZ, issues concerning digitization of cultural heritage, and the prospect for a meaningful and sustainable base for digital cultural heritage (DCH) in NZ. I will share some early observations from two research projects I am working on. One project explores an ecological approach to building an evolving and sustainable DCH; the other project on establishing participatory culture in DCH.
