Travel and Venue

ASSIA 2013 will be held at the Research Center for Knowledge Communities, University of Tsukuba, Tsukuba, Japan.

The Tsukuba Science City(筑波研究学園都市) is located at the center of Tsukuba City, 60 km northeast of Tokyo. Tsukuba Science City has about 60 educational and research organizations such as the University of Tsukuba, Tsukuba University of Technology, and High Energy Accelerator Research Organization, in 2,700 hectare-city area. The University has 28 college clusters and schools with a total of around 15,000 students (in 2003). The main Tsukuba campus covers an area of 258 hectares (636 acres), making it the largest single campus in Japan. It is famous in the research of physics, economics, physical education and social science. Its Graduate School of Life and Environmental Sciences is represented on the national Coordinating Committee for Earthquake Prediction. The university is one of the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's thirteen “Global 30” Project universities. (From Wikipedia)

The Research Center for Knowledge Communities conducts interdisciplinary research on knowledge community evolved by advanced information networks. Its mission focuses on reseach and development of information technology geared toward the formation, representation, organization, interoperability and evaluation of knowledge and information shared in the communities, as well as social engineering in the communities.

Travel

University Accommodations

  • Kasuga Guest House (Z1 in the map): Walk from City Center. It's 10 min walk.
  • Amakubo Guest House (T3 in the map): There is a bus terminal at the City Center. Take a Tsukuba-Daigaku Junkan Hidari-Mawari bus, and your stop is Medical Center Byoin. Bus fare is 160 JPY one way paid in cash when you get off the bus.
  • University Guest House (University Hall B in M6 of the map): There is a bus terminal at the City Center. Take a Tsukuba-Daigaku Junkan Migi-Mawari bus, and your stop is Daigaku Kaikan Mae. Bus fare is 190 JPY one way paid in cash when you get off the bus.
  • Tsukuba Daigaku Junkan Buses are circulated so don't worry even if you take the other way. It just takes longer to get your stop.
  • When you get on the bus, don't forget to take a ticket from a box on your right. It will indicate which stop (area) you get on the bus.
